As of 2005, The Popular Republic of China decided that the economical strategy used world wide should be reinforced by an equally cultural strategy. For this purpose, the Confucius Institutes and Classes (for Chineze language and culture) were born.
The whole activity is coordinated from Beijing through Hanban (the Institutes’ Headquarters) in partnership with the Ministry of Finace and the Ministry of Education with the assistance of prestigious universities involved in this extensive project.

In March 2011, at Ovidius University, Constanta, the first Confucius Class started its activity. At the opening ceremony the most important Chineze diplomats in Romania were present (i.e. their Excellencies the Chineze Ambasador and the General Consul). This reflects the importance which the Chineze side has for this project.
The Confucius Class from Ovidius University has approximately 60 students. In the summer of 2011, 6 students participated in the Chineze Summer School which took place in China. The Summer School lasted for a month, giving the students the possibility of attending Chineze language and culture classes at several universities from Beijing and Shanghai.
In October 2011, the students organised a photo exhibition entitled «China…our story », which was quite a success.
In December 2011, as the Director of the Confucius Class, I was invited to Beijing, at the 6th Conference of the Confucius Institutes. Approximately 1500 directors of Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classes from all over the world came and 200 rectors from the most prestigious universities attended the event.
This conferece gave me the opportunity of seeing the force and power of the Confucius project. In the next ten years there will be over 500 Confucius Institutes and 1000 Confucius Classes. I have to say that we are witnessing a true United Nations…through Culture. If in the United Nations there are certain political, ideological, economical, military differences, here, in the Confucius Institutes Organization we can talk about culture, mutual knowledge, multiculturalism and harmony.
